چکیده

Title of Dissertation: EMPIRICAL STUDIES IN PARALLEL SORTING Evan Golub, Doctor of Philosophy, 1999 Dissertation Directed By: Professor William Gasarch, Associate Professor Clyde Kruskal, Department of Computer Science I examine different parallel algorithms for sorting in rounds. Most of these algorithms use a graph to indicate the comparisons to be made. The primary difference between the algorithms is how these graphs are chosen. One uses graphs that are shown to exist using non-constructive techniques, several yield constructions of the required graphs, and one uses a randomized algorithm. The constructive algorithms would traditionally be preferred even though the processor requirements are higher. It is shown that the non-constructive algorithms can actually be used by generating the needed graphs using random number generators skewed appropriately. ã Copyright by Evan Golub 1999

Set a bi-objective redundancy allocation model to optimize the reliability and cost of the Series-parallel systems using NSGA II ‎problem‎

With the huge global and wide range of attention placed upon quality, promoting and optimize the reliability of the products during the design process has turned out to be a high priority. In this study, the researcher have adopted one of the existing models in the reliability science and propose a bi-objective model for redundancy allocation in the series-parallel systems in accordance with th...

Developing a bi-objective optimization model for solving the availability allocation problem in repairable series–parallel systems by NSGA II

Bi-objective optimization of the availability allocation problem in a series–parallel system with repairable components is aimed in this paper. The two objectives of the problem are the availability of the system and the total cost of the system. Regarding the previous studies in series–parallel systems, the main contribution of this study is to expand the redundancy allocation problems to syst...

Pareto-based Multi-criteria Evolutionary Algorithm for Parallel Machines Scheduling Problem with Sequence-dependent Setup Times

This paper addresses an unrelated multi-machine scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup time, release date and processing set restriction to minimize the sum of weighted earliness/tardiness penalties and the sum of completion times, which is known to be NP-hard. A Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) model is proposed to formulate the considered multi-criteria problem. Also, to solve the mo...

Fast Sorting on a Distributed-Memory Architecture

We consider the often-studied problem of sorting, for a parallel computer. Given an input array distributed evenly over p processors, the task is to compute the sorted output array, also distributed over the p processors. Many existing algorithms take the approach of approximately load-balancing the output, leaving each processor with Θ( p ) elements. However, in many cases, approximate load-ba...

A Memtic genetic algorithm for a redundancy allocation problem

Abstract In general redundancy allocation problems the redundancy strategy for each subsystem is predetermined. Tavakkoli- Moghaddam presented a series-parallel redundancy allocation problem with mixing components (RAPMC) in which the redundancy strategy can be chosen for individual subsystems. In this paper, we present a bi-objective redundancy allocation when the redundancy strategies for...
